Update (August 2026): Applications for a UAE visit visa for family members are moving again. After months of long delays and heavy scrutiny, the UAE has resumed issuing visit visas to Pakistani nationals applying through registered travel agents. Family applications — including Pakistanis visiting relatives already living in the UAE — are reported to be moving noticeably faster again. Daily passenger numbers from Pakistan to Dubai rose from roughly 170 earlier in the summer to almost 400 by late July. Note that both governments consistently stated there was never a formal ban; the problem was processing delays, not a policy block. Rules can change, so confirm the current position with a licensed agent before you pay anything.
Bringing your parents, spouse or siblings over for a few weeks is one of the real pleasures of working in the Emirates. The UAE visit visa for family is straightforward once you know which route applies to you, what the sponsor must prove, and where applications typically stall. This guide walks through all of it.
Who can sponsor a UAE visit visa for family
As a UAE resident you can normally sponsor close relatives for a short visit. Authorities generally look for a valid residence visa, a salary above a minimum threshold, and suitable accommodation. Closer relationships — parents, spouse, children, siblings — are the most straightforward; extended family is possible but scrutinised more.
You do not have to sponsor personally — a visa can also come through an airline when booking flights, a hotel booking, or a licensed travel agency. One important point for Pakistani passport holders: you generally cannot apply directly through the ICP portal yourself for a visit visa. Applications must go through a registered travel agent or an eligible sponsor, which is exactly the channel the UAE reopened in August 2026. Visa types and how long they last
The common options are 30-day and 60-day visit visas, each available as single- or multiple-entry. Watch two separate dates: the validity (the window in which your family must enter, usually 60 days from issue) and the duration of stay (counted from the day they land). Confusing the two is the single most common reason people accidentally overstay.

What you need depends on which route you use — and the difference is large.
Through a licensed travel agent
This is the route the August reopening applies to, and it needs far less paperwork. When my wife and I applied in September 2026, the agent asked for:
- Your passport, valid for at least six months
- Your spouse’s passport — for a married couple it should show the husband’s name, which is how the agent establishes you are travelling as a family
- A passport-size photo for each traveller
- Your CNIC
No UAE sponsor, salary certificate or tenancy contract was needed — the agent acts as the sponsor. Requirements can vary between agents, so get their document list in writing before you pay.
Sponsored by a relative living in the UAE
If a family member who holds UAE residency sponsors the visit instead, their circumstances are assessed too, and the list grows:
- Visitor’s passport, valid at least six months, plus a compliant photo
- Sponsor’s Emirates ID and residence visa copy
- Sponsor’s salary certificate or recent bank statements
- Tenancy contract (Ejari) or proof of accommodation
- Proof of relationship — attested marriage or birth certificate for close family
- Return flight booking and, commonly, medical insurance for the visit
Get relationship certificates attested in Pakistan before they are needed — arranging attestation after the fact means couriering documents back and forth and adds weeks.
From my own application — September 2026
My wife and I applied for UAE visit visas through a travel agent this September. Both visas came through within 24 hours, and the total was 29,000 PKR per person, including the agent’s fee. That was fast — yours may take longer, and the price moves with the visa’s duration and the agent you use.
The one requirement that caught us out: my wife’s passport had to show my name as her husband. That is how the agent established we were a family. If your spouse’s passport does not carry that detail, ask your agent what they will accept instead before you pay anything.

Practical tips for the visit itself
A few things make the stay far smoother, especially for older parents visiting for the first time. Arrange medical insurance that genuinely covers them — healthcare is excellent in the UAE but expensive without cover, and a single emergency can cost more than the whole trip. Plan around the weather: the summer months are punishing for visitors unused to the heat, so the cooler season between roughly November and March is far kinder for a longer stay.
Get them a local SIM or eSIM on arrival so they can reach you, keep a photo of their passport and visa on your own phone, and note the exit date somewhere you will both see it. If they take regular medication, bring a doctor’s prescription — some medicines that are routine in Pakistan are controlled in the UAE, and arriving without documentation can cause serious problems at the airport.
What improves your family’s approval odds
Reporting on the 2026 resumption points to a consistent pattern in which applications sail through and which stall. Approvals are noticeably stronger where the applicant:
- Is sponsored by a UAE resident relative rather than applying cold
- Travels as a family group rather than a single young applicant travelling alone
- Shows solid bank statements demonstrating they can fund the trip
- Has previous travel history, particularly clean prior visits to the UAE or elsewhere
- Has no immigration violations or past overstay on record
- Applies through a properly registered agent — the reopened channel — not an informal middleman
The core requirements remain a passport valid for at least six months, a genuine purpose of travel, and evidence of sufficient funds.
